Tribhanga (त्रिभंग)

"Tribhanga (त्रिभंग)"

Watched Hindi movie "Tribhanga (त्रिभंग)". This film is written and directed by Renuka Shahane. Produced by Ajay Devgan and others. Cinematography Baba Azmi. Music Sanjoy Choudhury. The film stars Kajol, Tanvi Azmi, Mithila Parlkar, Kanwaljit, Vaibhav Tatwaawadi, Kunal Roy Kapur, Manaw Gohil and Shweta Mehendale. This film was released yesterday. The film runs for about 1 hour 35 minutes. I watched it on Netflix on 16th Jan 2021 with Aditi.

Tribhang is a pose in Odissi classical dance which is described as imperfect but beautiful. This is the essence of the story of three generations of grand mother (Tanvi), mother (Kajol) and daughter (Mithila).

Tanvi goes into coma very early in the movie. Kajol and her brother (Vaibhav) have no relations with their mother but the brain stroke brings them and Mithila to hospital where the past is revealed.

Renuka handles the complicated mother-daughter relationship deftly. She handles the story expertly and ensures that audience is glued to the screen. Casting is good. Choice of actors for respective roles is apt. Kanwaljit's character appears like an afterthought. Behaviour of Kajol's father remains unexplained.

Baba Azmi's Cinematography is good as usual although there are hardly any outdoor scenes. Movie has good dialogues. They show the clash, tension, disappointment, love, repentance very effectively.

Kajol delivers a powerful performance as foul mouthed Bollywood actress and Odissi dancer. She looks ageless and demonstrates her acting abilities beyond doubt. Tanvi has little scope but delivers a convincing performance as does Shweta (as young Tanvi). Mithila has to learn a lot. Pitching her opposite accomplished actors was a risk. Although she holds her fort, she is no match for Tanvi, Kajol and Shweta. Kunal gives a good performance. Vaibhav is a pleasant surprise. He plays a composed role.

All in all it is a good movie to watch.
Recommend watching.
